Prince William County Special Olympics provides recreational programs for individuals with developmental disabilities who reside in the county. Currently there are 13 competitive sports events which involve 270 athletes (children and adults).

Research documents significant improvement in sense of self, social skills, and social interactions. Parents also see health critical health benefits. Reliable data also reflects a strong correlation between Special Olympics participation and the ability to be employed.
